Atlin Centre Atlin Quest

Location & Travel Information

When you have registered (click on "REGISTRATION") we will send you a letter to confirm that you have a place assured in the specific program(s)

Incredible Atlin Lake Atlin Art Centre's location was chosen with a vision in mind. The setting in Northern British Columbia is awe-inspiring and the area is known as 'The Switzerland of the North' and 'Sunny Atlin'. The panoramic coastal mountains across Atlin Lake hold back the Pacific rain clouds, creating a dry climate with low humidity, giving mosquitoes little chance to breed. The days are not just sunny, but long, too. During the summer the sun sets close to midnight. The air and water are pristine.

Travel Information:  New - faster and cheaper travel connections to Atlin with the Art Centre Bus!
For your Convenience: Bus transportation from Whitehorse Airport to Atlin/Atlin Centre with the Art Centre Bus is available on the specific arrival and departure days.   Round trip $35, one-way $20.   The Art Centre bus connection eliminates an overnight stay in Whitehorse, as you do not depend on the commercial Atlin Express Bus, which goes just Monday, Wednesday and Friday, leaving Whitehorse at 12 noon.   It also eliminates an overnight stay in Vancouver as you can take the afternoon flight to Whitehorse instead of the morning flight, because the Art Centre bus does not leave Whitehorse until 5 pm.   This arrangement can save you up to a second day of travel time, especially if you travel from the East of Canada or from the U.S.A.

Look below for the specific arrival and departure days for each specific program.

Booking your flight
As always, you will get a cheaper air fare if you book your flight early.

If your travel agent isn't clear about the flights to Whitehorse from Vancouver or from Edmonton, we suggest that you phone Atlas Travel in Whitehorse for detailed information (ask for Dennis). Phone: 1-867-667-7823 Fax: 1-867-668-7143

The most direct route to get to Atlin from within Canada and the USA:

3. By Bus from Whitehorse to Atlin:     Travel from the Whitehorse Airport to Atlin/Atlin Centre on the Art Centre Bus is available on the specific arrival and departure days. Round trip $35, one-way $20. Look in DATES, FEES & DISCOUNTS to check for the date of the specific arrival and departure days.  But if you like, you're also welcome to arrive a few days early and stay a few days after your program ends, at no extra charge.  In this case you depend on the Atlin Express Bus.

The Atlin Express Bus goes just on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, leaving from the Greyhound Bus Station in Whitehorse for Atlin at 12 noon, and leaving Atlin for Whitehorse on the same weekdays at 6:15 am.  Round trip $56, one-way fee $28.  (The Atlin Express Bus is 1 hour slower than the Atlin Art Centre bus!!)  For reservation call 1-250-651-7575.  If you are traveling from Whitehorse to Atlin with the Atlin Express Bus and not with the Art Centre Bus, please inform us of your arrival day in Atlin.

When you arrive at Whitehorse Airport we will transport you in our Art Centre bus from the airport to Atlin/Atlin Centre.  Look for our yellow School Bus, round trip - $35.  Travel time to Atlin is 2 1/2 hours.
(The round trip fee with the Atlin Express Bus, Monday, Wednesday and Friday only, is $56 and takes 3 1/2 hours).
For the Vancouver departure to Whitehorse you can book the morning or the noon flight, but you must arrive at Whitehorse Airport before 4:00 pm.

Should you decide to fly to Whitehorse on a different day, then you depend on the commercial Atlin Express Bus which goes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only; leaving Whitehorse at 12:00 noon from the Greyhound Bus Station on 2nd Ave. Travel time to Atlin with the Atlin Express Bus is slower (3 1/2 hours) and it will cost you $21 Cdn. more.
From the Whitehorse airport, take a taxi to the Greyhound Station on 2nd Ave.
If you need an overnight stay in Whitehorse, the Bonanza Hotel is the most reasonable.  As an Atlin Centre participant, ask for the discount rate of $59.

If you are not coming on any of the specific flight days, as listed above and you arrive in Atlin with the Atlin Express Bus, please inform us of your arrival day in Atlin so that we can pick you up in Atlin and bring you to the Centre (5 km).

If you come by car, the latest arrival time is 6:00 pm, on the day before your program starts.

Getting to Atlin from Europe:  There are direct flights with Air Transat and Condor from Europe to Whitehorse.  Flight time is 9 hours.  We will greet you when you arrive in Whitehorse.

Travel by Coastal Ferry:
If you want to travel by coastal ferry (it's been called the 'Adventure of a Lifetime'!), contact Alaska Marine Highway at (360) 676-8445 or (800) 642-0066.  Office hours are 7 am to 5pm, Alaska time.  Check out their web site at www.dot.state.ak.us, then select "Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS)".

Atlin Art testimonials:
The challenge now is to break those habits born out of convenience and comfort, and to continue to live the Atlin Experience on the other side of the world. Also to continually remind myself of what I have learned from Gernot Dick, who leaves me in awe of his sense of wonder, his strength, his focus, and his ability to awaken vitality and strength in me that previously lay dormant. Anita van Doorn, Brisbane, Australia.

Atlin is the break-away point for artists from around the world. When you've come to a standstill, when you find it difficult to see direction in your work, when you're struggling hard to find your own individual voice, the Atlin Art Experience will send you soaring. This is a place where art becomes life and life becomes art. Vicky Lentz, Edmunston, New Brunswick.
